Not just a summer student – part of the team

As I look ahead to my final year at UNB Law this fall, I can’t help but feel fortunate to have worked at Lawson Creamer – not just this summer but the two before it as well.

One of the best parts of working at Lawson Creamer is the people, and although there have been friends come and go, the culture of family and teamwork has stayed the same.

I have really enjoyed getting to learn and grow with this team. And whenever I come back, I feel like I can just slide right back into the work and the firm trusts me to do so.

Law is a busy and strenuous profession, but the team here does a great job of keeping morale high while going through some of our more stressful times.

Lawson Creamer is also at the forefront of what I think will be an interesting tipping point in the future of the legal profession – developing and promoting work-life balance.

Even as summer students, they have been very accommodating of time off for any reason. And if you can leave the office by 5 p.m., you should!

We are blessed to live in the Maritimes where a beach, fishing hole, golf course, hiking trail, hockey rink, basketball/tennis/pickleball court (I could go on forever here) is only a few minutes away.

For the good of a lasting career in law, positive mental health and family life goes a long way.

And the experience I have been getting here has been invaluable.

Lawson Creamer has provided me with the opportunity to work in almost every area of practice, which has been great in my evolution as a law student and future practitioner.

That wide diversity of learning and experience is one of the great advantages of working in a smaller city such as Saint John, and at a firm such as Lawson Creamer.

My first two summers involved a lot of employment law, which is such an interesting area of law that is growing at a rapid pace.

This year was focused more on business law and real property, which is what I hope to practice in the coming years. Saying that, I was also able to work on files that pertained to bankruptcy, civil litigation, criminal, family, insurance and others.

I am elated to announce I have been offered an articling student position at Lawson Creamer after I graduate in the spring of 2025 and cannot wait to continue working with this team!
